These flowering cactus grow in the sides and forks of trees in their native habitat. They have leafless (or apparently leafless) flattened stems which act as the plant's photosynthetic organs. Relatively large flowers are borne on the sides of the stems. The blooms are known to last several days. They should be protected from strong sunlight and freezing conditions. Once established they should flower within two years.
